Excellent Schools and Life-Long Learning Opportunities
The New Hampton Community School District consists of approximately 1,420 students in grades K-12. Our community is committed to expanding educational services so our students are better prepared to succeed in an ever-changing world. In 1998 voters of the School District approved a $5.1 million bond issue for the renovation the elementary/middle school complete which was completed in 2001.

To assure our students are well prepared for technology skills of the future, the New Hampton School District provides excellent technology education and training opportunities for students. Our schools our "technology smart." The infrastructure includes a wide area network with fiber between buildings, access to the Iowa Communications Network (ICN) for voice, data and video services and five instructional computer labs. The District employs a full-time technology coordinator, technical support specialists and library media specialists to insure student technology learning opportunities are continually planned and implemented. Our highly trained teachers continually seek ways to integrate into the curriculum and learning experience. A wide variety of technology classes are offered including computer programming, Web design, graphic design, content software, presentation and multimedia applications.

The school district offers an early childhood program for three, four and five year old children. The Learning Center and the Preschool Development programs have been very successful and well received by the parents and community.

The elementary school (PK-5) has an average pupil-teacher ratio of 17-24:1. Pupil/teacher ratios in most classes at the middle school (6-8) and high school (9-12) range from 18-25:1.

New Hampton High School has a high percentage of students who annually take the ACT College Entrance examination. Students consistently perform at or above the state and national composite averages.

St. Joseph Community School, in its 100th year of service to the community, is a regional Catholic K-8 school serving parishes in New Hampton and the surrounding areas. The mission of St. Joseph Community School is to provide a systematic training of the child’s spiritual, intellectual, social, cultural, and physical development through instruction, discipline, and guidance.

Accredited by the Iowa Department of Education, St. Joseph Community School meets all state requirements and employs highly qualified teachers and staff. With an enrollment of approximately 200, the school adheres to the philosophy of teaching the whole child. To meet these needs, students in grades first through eighth are multi-aged in order to facilitate groupings according to appropriate academic levels, social needs and other factors. In kindergarten through fourth grade the average student/teacher ratio is 16:1. Student/teacher ratio in fifth through eighth grade is 18:1.

On the leading edge of technology, the school is committed to updating systems and programs as well as integrating it into the classroom instruction.
Technology equipment available for students and staff include: the mobile lab with fifteen laptop computers, media lab with ten computers, three digital cameras, scanner, digital video camera and a DVD/CD duplicator.

In 1998, Holy Family Parish completed a building project in the amount of $2.3 million, which included the construction of a new gymnasium/parish community center and an addition to the school making it handicapped accessible.

In 1992, Sunrise Preschool began offering early childhood education for three, four and five year old children. Sunrise, licensed by the Iowa Department of Human Services, is a nondenominational school with a Christian based message that offers a developmentally appropriate curriculum.


There are seven colleges and universities within 45 miles of New Hampton.


Recreational and Leisure Opportunities

New Hampton has an outstanding parks system providing ever-expanding recreational opportunities for its residents. The Parks and Recreation Department maintains over 50 acres in the six city parks and provides recreational programs throughout the year.

One of the most widely used parks is Mikkelson Park that includes a new playground, baseball fields, swimming pool, two tennis courts, volleyball area, disc golf course, horseshoes and much more. Other park facilities include a nature trail, pond with fishing piers, native grass and wildflower area, winter ice rink and more playground areas, basketball courts, softball fields, sand volleyball courts and open play spaces.

The City also recently completed a major expansion of its swimming pool adding a state-of-the-art waterslide.

 

Mikkelson Park

The Parks Department also maintains a community center that is utilized by a variety of community and business organizations for meetings and special events.

For golfers, there are 24 golf courses within minutes of New Hampton. Bikers will enjoy miles of bike trails. And hunters will feast in the deer and pheasant hunting.

Chickasaw Wellness CenterAnother excellent recreational opportunity is the new $2.3 million Chickasaw Wellness Center.  Features include basketball and volleyball courts, a racquetball court, a rubberized running or walking track, training and exercise equpment, strength training area, batting and golf cages and steam rooms for both men and women.  There is also a supervised children's area for those too young to participate.  Click here to visit the CWC's website.

 

 

 


State-of-the Art Medical Care
Mercy Medical Center-New Hampton offers a full range of services in an inpatient and outpatient setting as well as 24 hour emergency care, surgical services, obstetrics and family health, therapy and rehabilitation, diagnostic services, home health and hospice. Mercy also offers convenient access to 14 different specialties from a 55 member medical staff. Mercy is on the cutting edge of technology, offering state-of-the-art equipment in areas such as mammography, ultrasound, CT scanning, laboratory services and surgery.

 
In addition, Mercy is a pioneer in telemedicine and was one of eight sites in Iowa to first give patients access to specialists in remote locations with the use of two-way interactive video equipment. The Center provides a number of specific services to area employers including Laboratory Testing: Wellness Screenings; and Physical Therapy Assessments. New Hampton Clinic, a department of Mercy Medical Center - New Hampton, is a primary care clinic that provides a full range of family healthcare services, including radiology and laboratory services. A dedicated team of primary care physicians, family nurse practitioners and our allied health staff care for approximately 25,000 patients each year at New Hampton Clinic. New Hampton Clinic has its roots in Medical Associates, a group of family physicians that joined in 1946 to meet the medical needs of patients in this area.  




Variety of Affordable Housing
New Hampton offers a wide variety of housing developments with lots available. We offer existing housing ranging from a low of $20,000 to a high of $450,000. New Hampton's proximity to metropolitan areas enables local businesses and residents to partake in big city benefits while avoiding the disadvantages of big city living. Within a 45-minute drive is Cedar Falls-Waterloo, home of the University of Northern Iowa; Des Moines, Cedar Rapids-Iowa City and the Twin Cities are within a two- to three-hour drive.
