Regional Laborshed Study
According to a 2005 regional laborshed study conducted by Iowa Workforce Development for the New Hampton area, the potential laborforce in the region is 6,497.

The regional analysis indicates that 65 percent have education/training beyond high school, 25.4 percent possess an undergraduate degree and 9.4 percent have obtained a post-graduate/professional degree-indicators of a highly educated and well-trained workforce.

New Hampton is located within convenient commuting distance to several two-year community colleges and four-year graduate colleges.


Northeast Iowa Community College located within 30 minutes in Calmar, Iowa, provides economic development and training services that assist businesses in growth and development, increasing productivity, and enhancing employee skills. Services and training are high quality, cost effective, customized and convenient. Training can be done on-site or on a NICC Campus. On-site training is a convenient and economical way to utilize high quality training.

  • 260E Iowa New Jobs Training Program
    This program assists businesses that are creating new positions or new jobs. If a company is expanding or locating a new facility in the state, New Jobs Training can provide flexible funding to meet a variety of training needs. The assistance available ranges from highly specialized to basic skills training for new positions. Companies engaged in manufacturing, processing, assembly of products, warehousing, wholesaling, research and development, and the provision of services with out-of-state customers are eligible.
  • 260F Iowa Jobs Training Program
    This program helps businesses fund customized training for current employees. NICC assists with the development of the training programs that are funded by forgivable loans. The maximum award for each project at a business site is $25,000. A business site may be approved for multiple projects-with funding over a three-year period, not to exceed $50,000. A cash match is required for projects exceeding $4,999. The assistance available ranges from highly specialized to basic skills training for new positions. Companies engaged in manufacturing, processing, assembly of products, warehousing, wholesaling, research and development, and the provision of services with out-of-state customers are eligible.

The University of Northern Iowa is located in Cedar Falls, a short 45-minute drive from New Hampton. UNI offers a comprehensive program of outstanding undergraduate education and complementary graduate programs. Undergraduate degrees programs include: Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Liberal Studies, Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Technology. Graduate degree programs include: Master of Accounting, Master of Arts, Master of Arts in Education, Master of Business Administration, Master of Music, Master of Public Policy, Master of Science, Master of Social Work, Specialist in Education, Specialist in Science, Doctor of Education, Doctor of Industrial Technology. UNI has ranked second in Midwest top public universities by U.S. News and World Report for six consecutive years. Wartburg College, a nationally recognized four-year liberal arts college, is located in Waverly, just 30 minutes from New Hampton.
 
Luther College is located in Decorah, 40 minutes from New Hampton. Luther is an undergraduate liberal arts institution of about 2,600 students offering more than 60 majors and preprofessional and certificate programs leading to a Bachelor of Arts degree.
 
Upper Iowa University, located in Fayette and within one hour's drive of New Hampton, is the largest private college in Iowa. UIU is a four-year, liberal arts institution of higher learning offering quality degree programs serving a widely diverse student clientele, including both recent high school graduates and mature learners. Upper Iowa University offers degrees and certificates in a variety of fields and specialty areas. Most field areas are available for study through more than one learning option (including distance learning opportunities).
