NH Public Library to Host Genealogy ClassPosted: Fri, March 4, 2016
Kevin Spire, a volunteer with the Iowa Genealogical Society will conduct a beginning genealogy class on from at the New Hampton Public Library. The title of the class is Finding Your Roots - A Beginner's Guide to Genealogy.
The class covers organizing your information - forms, charts, physical storage of papers and an overview of software programs. We'll also discuss how to evaluate sources and learn about the pitfalls of relying on others research, both online and in books. We'll explore genealogy websites and work through some basic building blocks of genealogy, including your personal family items and census records. Attendees are encouraged to bring birth and death dates and locations for their grandparents or great-grandparents so we can try to locate more information about them. When we're done, everyone should have a good idea on how to start, where to go for more information and how much fun family research can be.
Class is restricted to 20 participants and you can save your place by calling (641) 394-2184.
