Strengthening Families ProgramPosted: Fri, October 4, 2013
Do you have a child in your life between the ages of 10-14? A son, daughter, niece, nephew, grandchild? Do you wonder how you can help them now be successful in the future? Do you want to maintain a positive relationship with this young person during the challenging teen years?
Strengthening Families Program 10-14 is coming to New Hampton this fall, starting Monday, October 28 and is a proven, effective family program that promotes positive communication, family bonding and joint problem solving skills that is recognized across the country for its positive impacts on children, families, and communities. The seven-week FREE program is being offered to any student 5th-8th grade and their families Monday nights, 5:30-8:00PM, from October 28 through December 9.
The program begins with a FREE meal for the family at 5:30PM. FREE childcare is provided for younger siblings during the two-hour program. During the first hour of the program the parents and youth meet separately, but work on similar skills. During the second hour, parents and youth have fun together as they play games and do family projects.
Strengthening Families Program 10-14 is a wonderful program for the families that participate and for the community as a whole. If you are interested in learning more about the program, as family interested in participating or looking to provide support for the program either through funding or donations of supplies, please contact Iowa State University Extension and Outreach in Chickasaw County at 641-394-2174.
