The City Council of the City of New Hampton met in regular session in the Council Chambers at 112 East Spring Street, New Hampton Iowa at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 8, 2026. Mayor Geerts called the meeting to order. Council members present were Denner (via telephone), Kiffel, Larsen, Schwickerath. McGrath and Speltz – Absent. Also in attendance were City Attorney Todd Prichard, Casey Mai, Kyle Anderson, Tammy Robinson, Conrad Rosendahl, 11 NHHS Students, Cory McDonald and Jonas Schwickerath.

Moved by Larsen, seconded by Schwickerath; that the agenda be approved as presented. Ayes – Four. Nays – None. Absent – McGrath and Speltz. Motion carried.

Moved by Kiffel, seconded by Larsen; to approve the consent agenda as amended. Ayes – Four. Nays – None. Absent – McGrath and Speltz. Motion carried.

Speltz arrived at 7:07 pm

The Council discussed financing for the North Linn Water Main Loop project and agreed to allocate the $35,000 in revenue equally between the City of New Hampton and New Hampton Transfer and Storage, with $17,500 allocated to each. Motion by Larsen, seconded by Kiffel: To allocate $17,500 to each the City of New Hampton and to New Hampton Transfer and Storage for the North Linn Water Main Loop project, be approved. Ayes – Five. Nays – None. Absent – McGrath. Motion carried.

Moved by Larsen, seconded by Schwickerath That Resolution No. 6866 RESOLUTION APPROVING PAY REQUEST #1 FROM BLAZEK CONSTRUCTION IN THE AMOUNT OF $89,466.40 FOR THE NORTH LINN WATER MAIN PROJECT be approved. Ayes – Denner, Kiffel, Larsen, Schwickerath, Speltz. Nays – None. Absent – McGrath. Resolution approved.

Moved by Schwickerath, seconded by Speltz; That Resolution No. 6867 APPROVING THE CITY OF NEW HAMPTON’S DEPOSITORY RESOLUTION, be approved. Ayes – Denner, Kiffel, Larsen, Schwickerath, Speltz. Nays – None. Absent – McGrath. Motion carried.

Moved by Larsen, seconded by Schwickerath; That Resolution No. 6868 RESOLUTION APPROVING THE BID OF WAYNE’S REPAIR IN THE AMOUNT OF $6,656.06 FOR 10 NEW TIRES FOR UNIT #311 LADDER TRUCK, be approved. Ayes – Denner, Kiffel, Larsen, Schwickerath, Speltz. Nays – None. Absent – McGrath. Motion carried.

Police Chief Conrad Rosendahl updated the council on the brick and roof repair projects recently completed at the police department.

City Clerk Karen Clemens updated the council regarding the traffic light repair at the intersection of South Linn and West Hamilton as well as discussing the need to review the current solid waste agreement with LJP Waste Solutions.

Public Works Director Casey Mai shared updates for the Garfield Street project, the Logan & Cleveland Street project and the plat divisions for the IDC housing project and the South Industrial Park project.
