The City Council of the City of New Hampton met in regular session in the Council Chambers at 112 East Spring Street, New Hampton Iowa at 7:00 p.m. Monday, July 19, 2021. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Schwickerath at 7:00 p.m. Council members present were Diiro, Fisher McDonald, Perkins, Boos, Denner.  Also in attendance were Zach Nosbisch, Casey Mai and City Attorney Kevin Kennedy.

 

Moved by Perkins, seconded by Diiro; that the agenda be approved as presented. Ayes-Six. Nays-None. Absent– None.  Motion carried.

 

Moved by Diiro, seconded by Boos; That the minutes of the regular council meeting of July 6, 2021, be approved. Ayes-Six. Nays-None. Absent– None.  Motion carried.

 

Moved by Perkins, seconded by Denner; that the claims in the amount of $ 98,485.64 be approved.  Ayes-Six. Nays-None. Absent– None.  Motion carried.

 

Mayor Schwickerath shared with the council that he has scheduled a meeting with a possible city attorney replacement.  Schwickerath will report back to the city council at the next regularly scheduled meeting.

 

Katie Fisher, with the Cotton Market, is requesting to use the parking spaces in front of their business at 9 North Locust for three vendors on July 22, 2021. Jenny Bouillon, with Sweets by Keke, shared with the council that she is not concerned that the Cotton Market has invited an out of town business to sell baked goods. Moved by Perkins, seconded by Diiro; To approve the request from The Cotton Market to have Vendors set up in the parking spaces on the street in front of their business at 9 North Locust on July 22nd, be approved.  Ayes-Four. Nays-Boos. Abstain- Fisher. Absent– None.  Motion carried.

 

Moved by Fisher, seconded by Denner; To approve the request from the Holy Family Parish Fall Festival Committee to close North Maple Ave Sunday, September 19, 2021 from 8am to 4pm, be approved. Ayes-Six. Nays-None. Absent– None.  Motion carried.

The council briefly discussed a letter from a concerned resident about the diseased trees in New Hampton.  As per the Tree Committee minutes of July 7, 2021, the city has completed an inventory of trees that are scheduled to be removed and letters have been mailed to the adjoining property owners informing them of the City’s plan.  Clemens will share this information with the resident.
