The City Council of the City of New Hampton met in regular session in the Council Chambers at 112 East Spring Street, New Hampton Iowa at 7:00 p.m. Monday, September 15, 2025. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Geerts. Council members present were Larsen, Porath, Schwickerath, Speltz, Denner, Humpal . Also in attendance were City Attorney Todd Prichard, Casey Mai, Tara Hackmen, Bob Fenske, Pam Bartness, Dwight Schwickerath and a NHHS student.

New Hampton property owners, Pam Bartness and Dwight Schwickerath, shared photos and their concerns regarding the storm water flooding that is occurring in the yards. These property owners are asking for a solution to the flooding issues.
PWD Casey Mai presented an agreement for professional Services with Calhoun-Burns & Associates for engineering services for the East Spring Street bridge replacement. The city received a grant to replace the bridge on East Spring Street for all labor and materials; the City is responsible for all other expenses including engineering.
Moved by Porath, seconded by Speltz ; That Resolution No. 6759 RESOLUTION APPROVING THE AGREEMENT FOR PROGESIONAL ENINEERING SERVICE WITH CALHOUN-BURNS & be approved. Ayes – Larsen, Porath, Schwickerath, Speltz, Denner, Humpal Nays – None. Absent- None. Resolution approved.
Moved by Porath, seconded by Speltz; That the New Hampton City Council entered into closed session pursuant to Iowa Code Section 21.5(1)c, which provides: To discuss strategy with Council in matters that are presently in litigation or where litigation is imminent where its disclosure would be likely to prejudice or disadvantage the position of the governmental body in that litigation.

City Clerk Karen Clemens informed the council that there is one resident who has submitted the paperwork to be on the ballot for the November 4, 2025 election. There are three council seats up for election.
