The City Council of the City of New Hampton met in regular session in the Council Chambers at 112 East Spring Street, New Hampton Iowa at 7:00 p.m. Monday, September 20, 2021. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Schwickerath at 7:00 p.m. Council members present were Perkins, Boos, Denner, Diiro, Fisher, McDonald.  Also in attendance were Casey Mai, Mindy Humpal and several NHHS government class students and City Attorney Todd Prichard

 

Moved by Diiro, seconded by Perkins; that the agenda be approved as presented. Ayes-Six. Nays-None. Absent–None.  Motion carried.

 

Moved by McDonald, seconded by Fisher; That the minutes of the regular council meeting of September 7, 2021, be approved. Ayes-Six. Nays-None. Absent–None.  Motion carried.

 

Moved by Diiro, seconded by Denner; That the claims in the amount of $35,573.27 be approved. Ayes-Six. Nays-None. Absent–None.  Motion carried.

 

City Clerk Karen Clemens sent out an RFP for repair/replacement of the Community Center Roof (4 different roofs).  Bids were accepted until Friday, September 17, 2021.

Clemens received an additional bid from Imperial Roof Systems on Monday, September 20th which was past the due date.

The Council requested Clemens re-let the project and requests bids for repairs of the four roofs and a second set of bids for replacement of roofs.  Moved by McDonald, seconded by Denner: To direct City Clerk Karen Clemens to re-let the RFP and request two bids; one for repairs and one for replacement.  The bids need to be returned by Friday, October 1, 2021 by 5:00 pm. be approved. Ayes-Six. Nays-None. Absent–None.  Motion carried.

 

Moved by Perkins, seconded by Boos; To accept the resignation of Patti O’Hollearn from the Library Board and approve the appointment of Bob Fenske to the Library Board to fill the unexpired term to July 1, 2023, be approved. Ayes-Six. Nays-None. Absent–None.  Motion carried

 

Moved by Diiro, seconded by Fisher; To approve the resignation of Jake Hackman from the Board of Adjustment, effective immediately, be approved. Ayes-Six. Nays-None. Absent–None.  Motion carried

 

Moved by Denner, seconded by McDonald; that the request of Tim Angell, representing Mr. Haney’s Junk & Vintage Market, to close East Gardner Street between North Chestnut Ave and North Locust Ave from Thursday, October 7th at noon until 6:00 pm on Saturday, October 9th, be approved.  Ayes-Six. Nays-None. Absent–None.  Motion carried

 

City Attorney Todd Prichard reported that the Board of Adjustment meeting was postponed until October 4, 2021.

Mayor Schwickerath updated the council on the feedback that he has received since the delivery of the new recycling carts to city residents this past weekend.  The majority of comments were in favor of the new carts, but he also received negative comments.  The council hopes that all residents will adjust to the new carts.
